Fungi and Mushrooms

Collecting fungi and mushrooms in Sierra de Urbasa Natural Park is common and it is not subjected to any specific regulation. The harvest season is in spring and autumn.

In spring, the highly valued Calocybe Gambosa grows on the green fields of Urbasa. Locally it is known as Perretxiko and in other areas as the San Jorge mushroom. In autumn, the Beltza fungus (Boletus aureus), the White fungus (Boletus edulis), the Amanita Caesarea and various mushrooms are harvested.

In the cottage we can advise you about the fungi and mushrooms that you have collected to ensure that you do not eat any poisonous or indigestible one. We can also share with you some local recipes so to make the most of your find.
